Which Huangshan cable car should I take?
The Management Committee's cableway column lists five lines: Yungu (云谷索道), Yuping (玉屏索道), Taiping (太平索道), the new Donghai (东海索道) and the West Sea Grand Canyon sightseeing cable car (西海观光缆车). The pages do not rank them. The bottom stations are in different places, and entry tickets are booked by entry direction, so choose the line on the side you plan to enter or leave by.
| Line | Bottom station to top station | Length and rise | Cabin and ride time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yungu | Yungu Temple (云谷寺) to Baie Ridge (白鹅岭) | 2,666 m, rise 775 m | 8 people; fastest 8 minutes |
| Yuping | Guanpu Tower (观瀑楼) to Putuan Pine (蒲团松) | 2,600 m, rise 871 m | 8 people; fastest 8 minutes |
| Taiping | Songgu'an (松谷庵) to Paiyun Pavilion (排云亭) | 3,709 m, rise 1,014.5 m | 100+1 people; fastest 8 minutes |
| Donghai | East Gate to the Donghai upper station | 6,638 m, rise 1,197 m | 8 people; about 30 minutes one way |
Songgu'an is at the North Gate (北大门), according to the Committee's 11 August 2026 reopening notice, so Taiping is the North Gate line. The Committee's cableway pages do not say which gate or bus stop serves Yungu Temple or Guanpu Tower. The Committee's page for the West Sea sightseeing cable car has no text, so its stations and ride time are not given there.
Huangshan cable car price in 2026: Yungu, Yuping, Taiping and West Sea
The 2026 price policy (reprinted on gmw.cn from Anhui Daily, and credited there to the Huangshan Municipal Government) sets two periods. Every price is for one one-way ticket.
| Line | Winter, 20 Dec 2025 to 20 Jan 2026 (ended) | Regular and peak, 21 Jan to 19 Dec 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Yungu | ¥65 | ¥80 |
| Taiping | ¥65 | ¥80 |
| Yuping | ¥75 | ¥90 |
| West Sea Grand Canyon sightseeing cable car | ¥80 | ¥100 |
So yes, last winter was cheaper, by ¥15 on Yungu, Taiping and Yuping and ¥20 on the West Sea cable car. But that winter period ended on 20 January 2026. The policy runs only to 19 December 2026 and says nothing about fares from 20 December 2026. Do not assume last winter's lower prices repeat. The entrance ticket has its own prices, which are on our Mount Huangshan tickets page.
Donghai cableway price
The Donghai line has its own fare. A notice dated 8 June 2026, signed by Huangshan Tourism Group (黄山旅游集团有限公司) and posted on the Management Committee's site, gives ¥125 per person per one-way trip in the peak season (旺季) and ¥100 in the low season (淡季). It cites the Anhui Provincial Development and Reform Commission approval 皖发改价格[2026]307号. Two things are left open:
- The notice does not say which months are peak and which are low. Its words are also different from the "winter" and "regular and peak" periods of the other lines, so do not map one onto the other.
- The notice calls Donghai the "lower section of the Yungu Cableway" (云谷索道下半段). You may see it under that name too.
The official Huangshan Tourism platform's booking notes and Huangshan Tourism Group's Donghai fare notice do not give a child fare for Donghai.
Huangshan cable car opening hours
These are the hours in the Committee's notices. The Committee adds that hours may change for events or heavy bookings, and that the booking times on the official platform decide.
| Line and notice | Mon to Fri | Weekends and short holidays | Winter hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yungu, Yuping, Taiping (notice of 4 March 2026, in force from 5 March), 5 Mar to 30 Nov | 7:00 to 17:10 | 6:30 to 17:40 | 1 Dec to 4 Mar, weekends included: 8:00 to 16:40 |
| Donghai (notice of 9 June 2026), 11 Jun to 30 Nov | 7:00 to 17:10 | 6:30 to 17:40 | 1 to 31 Dec 2026, weekends included: 8:00 to 16:40 |
From 1 December every day, weekends included, is 8:00 to 16:40. The Donghai notice only covers up to 31 December 2026. The West Sea cable car's hours are not in these notices.
National Day and other Golden Weeks
May Day, National Day and Spring Festival Golden Weeks get their own notices. As an example, the notice of 28 September 2026 covers 1 to 7 October 2026 only. For Yungu, Yuping, Taiping and Donghai it gives 6:00 to 17:40 on 2 to 6 October and 6:30 to 17:40 on 1 and 7 October. Those hours are for that week alone. For another holiday, look for its own notice.
The new Donghai cableway at the East Gate: ride time and walking
The East Gate (东大门) and the Donghai cableway opened on 11 June 2026 at 9:00. The Committee's page gives 6,638 m, 1,197 m of rise, 8-person cabins, 6 m/s top speed and about 30 minutes one way. An Amazing Huangshan page on China Daily's regional site says 22 to 30 minutes, so treat 30 as the safe number.
Can you walk instead? No. The Committee says there is currently no hiking trail between the East Gate and the Donghai upper station. The cableway is the only way in and out of that area. Its notices of 9 June and 28 September 2026 both ask visitors to plan the exit especially carefully, and to stay on the marked routes.
Missing your time slot
If you cannot reach the gate in time, the 9 June notice says to cancel and rebook another entry slot the same day that still has tickets. If the wait is long, it suggests the Huangshan Geopark Museum (黄山地质公园博物馆) nearby.
For getting there, the Amazing Huangshan page says a shuttle from Huangshanxi Railway Station takes about 30 minutes to the East Gate Tourist Center and from Huangshanbei Railway Station about one hour. Drivers can park at Tanjiaqiao Passenger Transport Center and take a shuttle. For the wider picture, see our Huangshan travel guide.
How to book Huangshan cable car tickets
Book in advance on the official Huangshan Tourism platform (黄山旅游官方平台), a WeChat or Alipay mini-program. The Committee's notice of 9 June 2026 describes the system as real-name, by time slot and by entry direction, and asks you to book both scenic-area tickets and cableway tickets this way. The platform's booking notes also say transfer-bus and cableway tickets should be bought there in advance.
- Together or separate: the Amazing Huangshan page says East Gate scenic-area and cableway tickets must be booked together. The Committee's notices and the platform's booking notes say nothing either way for Yungu, Yuping, Taiping or the West Sea cable car.
- At the gate: the booking notes say entry and cableway tickets are checked by swiping the second-generation ID card (二代身份证, the Chinese resident ID). You do not collect a paper ticket.
- Foreign visitors: how a foreign passport holder books and gets through the gate is covered on our Mount Huangshan tickets page.
- Official channels only: the Committee warns against booking scenic-area tickets through unofficial channels and not to believe claims that a waitlist or paying extra will get you a slot.
In the cabin
The Yuping safety notice on the platform page says each cabin takes 8 adults, with a total load of no more than 640 kg. Each adult ticket includes 5 kg of luggage free, no larger than 0.03 cubic metres. The same notice says a stop for bad weather or a fault is possible, and waiting passengers can choose to keep waiting or change plans.
Huangshan cable car closed? Weather and maintenance
Weather. The 9 June 2026 notice says cableways may stop temporarily in thunderstorms, strong wind, snow or ice. In August 2026 a typhoon closed the whole scenic area, cableways included, from the notice on 9 August. The area reopened from 12 August (notice of 11 August), but Tiandu Peak, the West Sea Grand Canyon, the West Gate area and the North Gate trail from Songgu'an to Qingliang Terrace stayed temporarily closed, with reopening left to notices on the official platform. For the closed days, the Committee told people to cancel through the original channel or rebook.
Yearly inspection. The lines close one at a time for their yearly overhaul. Last time, the cableway division's notice of 11 November 2025 gave these dates:
- Taiping: 24 November to 8 December 2025
- Yuping: 4 to 28 January 2026
- Yungu: 29 January to 13 February 2026
Those dates are over. The cableway division's 11 November 2025 notice gives last winter's dates, not a schedule for winter 2026–27. If you travel between November and February, check the Committee's notices or call the line you plan to use before you book. The 2025 notice also said dates can change.
Routine checks. Under the cableway division's notice of 9 April 2026, on 13 to 16 April each line stopped after 15:00 on one day (West Sea on the 13th, Yuping the 14th, Yungu the 15th, Taiping the 16th), due to reopen the next day unless something special came up. That one is over too.
West Sea Grand Canyon. The canyon, where the sightseeing cable car runs, closed for winter maintenance from 1 December 2025 and reopened on 14 March 2026. The closure notice of 28 November 2025 and the reopening notice of 13 March 2026 say nothing separate about the cable car in that period.

Huangshan cable car refunds and child prices
The platform's booking notes have no date on the page. They say an unused entry or cableway ticket can be refunded within 7 days after the play date and not after that. You can do it in the mini-program under Orders, or by phone on 0559-2590999. The notes do not mention a fee.
For children, the notes say a child with a guardian, over 1.2 m up to and including 1.5 m, pays a child fare on any Huangshan cableway. Children 1.2 m and under with a guardian ride free.
| Line | Child fare, regular and peak | Child fare, winter |
|---|---|---|
| Yungu and Taiping | ¥40 | ¥35 |
| Yuping | ¥45 | ¥40 |
| West Sea Grand Canyon sightseeing cable car | ¥50 | ¥40 |
The notes are silent on a Donghai child fare. Ask the platform hotline before you book if you travel with children and plan to use that line.
